Google Street View - look around our village!
Google's innovative Street View service offers anyone the ability to see street-level photography. First introduced in 2007, Google has been painstakingly photographing streets in many countries. On 11 March 2010, Google launched a comprehensive UK Street View service, covering around 95% of the UK's roads - including most of Little Waltham.
Street View works as an add-on feature to Google Maps. For first-time users, we're including a quick guide to using Street View on this page. If you don't want to read this, just click here to go to Google Maps and view the Little Waltham area. Otherwise, read on...
On Google Maps, Street View is available whenever the little man at the top of the zoom bar is coloured orange.

If you put your cursor on the little orange man, he'll lean over. If you left-click and drag him on to the map, you'll see the roads which have Street View are highlighted with blue outlines. Next to the little man there's a pulsing green blob - just drag it on to the road you want to view and then unclick.

|

|
When you unclick, Street View will appear. In the bottom right-hand corner, there's a small map which shows the location you're looking, and the green pointer under the little orange man shows in which direction you're viewing.
You can click and drag anywhere on the photo to move your view around - side to side, or up and down.

As you move your cursor around on the photograph, you'll see an oval appear on the ground. If you double-click on this, your viewpoint will move along to where the oval is.
You'll also see rectangles appear on areas above ground level; again, you can double-click on these to view the selected area directly. Sometimes, the rectangles have a magnifying glass symbol in the bottom right-hand corner - you can double-click on these rectangles to zoom in. Click on the minus sign to zoom out again.

As well as our own area, Street View now covers most of the UK, as well as much of Europe and almost all of the USA. It's fascinating to look at favourite holiday destinations, relatives' houses, etc.
So, to continue to Street View, click here to go to Google Maps and view the Little Waltham area.
